Despite a disappointing 4-1 loss to Norths on Sunday, the women’s Division 1 side is well inside the top four and six points clear of the only team with any chance of replacing it in the finals.
Anderson said Magpies had played some good hockey with a new-look squad this season.
“We have had several experienced players return and help with the development of our juniors,” she said.
“At our best, we are capable of beating the top sides.
“A couple of weeks ago against last year’s premiers Falcons we matched it with them.
“But on Sunday we just didn’t turn up.”
Sam Daly, now playing for Victoria in the national country championships is playing with Magpies, and Anderson said the entire squad had lifted.
“Ashleigh Gould, who is just 15 and a Strikers development player, stepped into the centre half role, but can play anywhere — she is just that versatile,” Anderson said.
“And Katy Smithwick has been good all year.”
Anderson wants a couple of wins before a final- round bye before finals.
“We need to keep winning,” she said.
“We have two games, a bye, then it’s finals — we need to win those two games by good margins.”
