While the elderly man entering the sportsground would have been misguided with his comment on 364 days of the year, he was on the money on Sunday as the sleepy Riverina township came alive.
Car parks were at a premium as Rand’s population of “80 or 90” blew out to 1200 for its annual junior football-netball carnival.
Budding footballers and netballers from as far away as Deniliquin, Holbrook, The Rock and Yarrawonga battled it out between 9.30am and 3pm with proceeds going to Rand’s public school.
“It’s always a big day,” organiser James Kreutzberger said.
“We had 35 footy and 23 netball teams this year.
“Parents have been really supportive over the years.”
Some for as many as 31 years.
