In order to gain selection King competed in events at Canberra, Hobart and Geelong finishing eighth overall.
In Lausanne he will be competing in the Olympic distance race, which will consist of a 1.5km swim, 40km cycle and a 10km run. King has previously represented Australia at the Deaflympics and in the Australian Deaf Games.
Ovens and Murray swimmers put in strong performances at the Victorian Country Short Course Championships in Shepparton last weekend.
Albury’s rising star Kylie Crofts, 14, was on fire, setting four new records.
She won gold medals in the 14-15 years 100m butterfly (1:06.06), 200m freestyle (2:10.67), 200m IM (2:24.52), 200m breaststroke (2:41.46) and the 200m butterfly (2:24.31).
Team-mate Charlotte Mitlehner, 13, also left her mark in the 100m-breaststroke event in a new country record time of 1:17.43.
She also won a gold medal in the 100m butterfly (1:10.05), silver in the 12-13 years 200m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley events as well as a bronze medal in her 100m freestyle events.
Emma Pane, 16, surged ahead in her 100m-breaststroke event claiming a gold medal and set a record with a time of 1:16.62.
Pane also collected a gold medal in the 12-13 years 100m butterfly (2:29.88) while Kimberly Mitlehner, 14, claimed a silver medal in the 14-15 years 100m breaststroke
Wodonga’s Ashlea Bennett, 14, won a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke, Michelle Eddy, 16, a bronze in the 200m freestyle and Stuart Rodda, 13, snared silver medals in the 12-13 years 200m individual medley, 100m butterfly and in the 100m freestyle.
Overall, Traralgon finished with 824.
From the O and M clubs, Albury chalked up 388 points to finish 9th (258), Yarrawonga-Mulwala 21st (60) and Wangaratta 29th on 26 points.
Life member of the Ovens and Murray District Swimming Association, referee Don Alchin of Wodonga, who also travelled to Shepparton to work as official referee at the championships, received a huge surprise when presented with Swimming Victoria’s Outstanding Official of the Year Award.
Swimming Australia will hold its short course championships this weekend in Hobart.
Albury’s Belinda Hocking and Craig Calder will test their skills against the best Australians.
The championships will also be the selection trials for the Junior Pan Pacific team that will go on to compete at the 2007 Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Hawaii.
