The retired couple live on the Wodonga-Yackandandah Road at Staghorn Flat a short distance from the crash site.
This is the same stretch of road where a truck almost took their daughter’s life 28 years ago.
“It’s traumatic for us,” Mrs Dennis said.
“Our daughter was 15 when she was hit by an eight-tonne gravel truck one day after getting off the school bus.
“She suffered serious injuries.
“This brings back all of those painful memories.”
The couple said they were finishing breakfast yesterday when they heard a loud bang.
“The loud bang was like something had erupted,” Mrs Dennis said.
“We raced outside but couldn’t see anything.
“Later, we discovered the smash was down the road further and it was a fatality involving three people.”
Mrs Dennis said the deaths would devastate the small community.
“You feel terrible, I mean, hearing about what happened, they had no chance whatsoever,” she said.
