Thorne Maw, 12, and his friend had their bikes taken in broad daylight from Kiewa Street while they were buying new helmets about 3.30pm on Saturday.
His mother Kelly Maw posted a message on Facebook looking for a cheap bike after she received a panicked phone call from her son.
“I got a private message saying to go to Pushys Bike Warehouse and pick out a new bike,” she said.
“I am overwhelmed and words can’t even explain it.
“I’m shocked — it’s just so generous.”
Thorne said he and his friend had been in Kmart for only 10 minutes when they returned to find their bikes missing.
He had his custom-built BMX for two weeks after he bought it second-hand for about $500.
His friend’s bike is a Norco 125 dirt jumper valued at $1400.
Ms Maw said while they were grateful for the new bike, they still hoped to have the stolen one returned.
“He loved it,” she said.
“It’s how he gets to school.
“It means a lot to him because he saved up money to buy it.”
Ms Maw has four children and said she would not have been able to afford to buy her son a new bike.
She said she had also been saving to move her family to a new house.
“It takes a while to save for things,” she said.
“I know it’s only a bike but it’s just not fair.”
His bike has a black frame, green tyres and pink and purple Colony rims. It also has red grips, a grey seat and chrome bars.
His friend’s bike has a blue frame and “Circus” written on the front forks.
