Murray, who played 110 matches for the Saints, will enter coaching ranks for the first time when he takes over from Craig Coonan.
King Valley president Bruce Uebergang said Murray’s experience would be invaluable for the Roos.
“He’s straight out of the Ovens and Murray and we’re excited to have him on board,” Uebergang said.
“Craig Coonan suggested we try for a playing coach and it’s good to have something sorted out so early.
“We think Hayden will be really good for the club.”
King Valley won six matches under Coonan this season. It bowed out of the finals in straight sets under Brendan Sessions last year.
