Inspector John Klepczarek said while cannabis had been a staple drug in the area, ice and amphetamines were the emerging drugs.
"Earlier this year, police from the Hume Local Area Command (LAC) conducted Strike Force Fortitude where they targeted supply of methamphetamine in the area," he said.
"From that, a number of people were arrested for the supply of methamphetamine and cannabis." Insp Klepczarek said methamphetamine was predominantly a younger person's drug.
"It's predominantly used by people aged 35 or younger, but it doesn't discriminate," he said.
"There have been arrests across the state and those affected by methamphetamines or committing crimes because of it have been young and old.
"It has an horrific affect on families and there are a number of families in the Highlands that have been affected by methamphetamines."
Strike Force Roul targeted drug supply in the Goulburn area, but Insp Klepczarek said there were links to the Highlands in those arrests.
"Drug use is in all areas in the Highlands and it affects families," he said.
"We encourage Highlanders to come forward if they suspect their family, friends or neighbours of drug use or supply and contact Bowral Police or Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous.
"Strike forces start with that information from the public.
"We can't underestimate how important it is when people call in with information - it could be that vital piece we're missing that brings it all together. Once we identify a problem, we will act."
