The 30 cyclists are taking part in the Tour de Legacy, which aims to raise more than $100,000 for Legacy, the organisation set up after World War I to care for families during or after defence force service.
The riders will cover about 1500 kilometres in 12 days, and arrived in Adelaide on April 24.
One of those riders is champion Stuart O’Grady, of Adelaide. He tackled 17 Tour de France rides from 1997 to 2013.
“This is a tour of a different kind,” he said.
The ride started with a ceremony at the War Memorial in Canberra.
The riders will arrive at the Morphettville Race Course in Adelaide in time for the dawn service.
Legacy receives 5 per cent of funding from the government with the rest donations and fund-raising making up the rest.
