THERE have been plenty of changes at Bonnie Doon since last year’s clash against King Valley — 18 to be exact — but coach Terry Mahoney expects one thing to stay the same.

With that many new names on their team sheet, Mahoney said he still expected another tough game this weekend when the Bombers travel to the Whitfield Recreation Reserve.
“This is a year that’s evolving for us,” Mahoney said.
“I looked at the teams as we lined up last year and we have 18 different players.
“They’re all getting used to a different game plan and different personalities — but we’re working hard on that and we hope it will improve as the season goes on.
“There are some very promising signs there but it won’t be until a few more games until we start to hit our straps.
“But we’re looking forward to King Valley — it was a hard game last year that was close all day and they’re an extremely competitive team who are travelling along quite well, so we’re expecting a another hard contest.”
They may have a long way to go, but the Bombers have shown they can get the job done, winning their first four games.
However, their 14-point win over Whorouly last week was probably their first real test.
“The top teams are clearly Glenrowan and Bright,” Mahoney said.
“Then you’ve got the teams around the middle — Whorouly, Moyhu, King Valley and we’re probably in that group too.
“So an opportunity to come up against those teams is an opportunity to get a game in front and to test and see exactly where you are.
“They’re the vital clashes — there are games you go in and should win, and games you really have to take the opportunities when they come because they’re eight-point games.”
