With her poncho on and daughter Lesley by her side, Mrs Fox tackled almost half of the 5 kilo- metre walk in the pouring rain at Belvoir Park.
She said as long as she is still fit, she will try her best to go to the event.
“I try to go at least 2km, I’m fit and Lesley has had breast cancer before, so I’m walking for her,” Mrs Fox said.
“It’s not the best weather but when you see all the people and the cars here it’s quite good.”
Mrs Fox’s daughter, Lesley Baker, overcame breast cancer two years ago and they have had several other family members who have suffered from cancer.
Mrs Baker’s daughter Jen was also at the event with St John’s Ambulance.
“There are not many people who still have a mother when they are 73 years old, and for her to say I would like to come with you on the Mothers Day Classic walk — I thought she would probably be feeling cold or tired but look at her,” Mrs Baker said.
“The wet weather isn’t throwing me off, I’ve got my big boots on so I’m ready to go.
“A walk like this is very important to me, exercise is one of the best things you can do post-cancer.
“Everybody here does such a wonderful job there is a lot of organising and volunteers and people who care, so I wish everybody a happy Mother’s Day.”
After braving the weather, the ladies were excited to get home for a nice warm meal of bacon and eggs.
