WODONGA Raiders took a giant stride towards playing finals for the first time since 2012 after staging a miraculous comeback to stun Yarrawonga by three points at Birallee Park on Saturday.
The Raiders kicked the final seven goals of the match to claw their way back from a 41-point deficit at the seven-minute-mark of the final quarter.
Coach Daryn Cresswell said the sky was the limit for his emerging side with star duo Jake Goldsmith and Todd Grayson set to return from injury in coming weeks.
“The win should give us a lot of confidence,” Cresswell said.
“We haven’t done something like that for a long time.
“We have a young group so the tendency would be to stop, roll over and get beat but to their credit they kept coming an coming and had the belief to win.
“It should give the whole club a real lift.”
Ross Tungatalum orchestrated the comeback with four majors in a 16-minute burst after being well held for most of the match by Yarrawonga defender Damon Hemphill.
It was the second spectacular comeback in Ovens and Murray ranks this season after Wangaratta Rovers came from 49 points down at half-time to roll Myrtleford in round four.
While Wodonga Raiders are in the mix for the double chance, Yarrawonga is fighting for its season.
The Pigeons are clinging to fifth spot and are desperate for co-coach Brendan Fevola to return against Wangaratta Rovers at W.J. Findlay Oval this weekend after he missed Saturday’s match playing for Donvale.
