The Lions will be taking on the reigning premiers in front of the 1990 Mulwala premiership team, which will be celebrating its 25th anniversary reunion.
Wearing the old guernsey, Lions coach Ben James said there was plenty of pride on the line as well as a chance to shore up a top-two spot on the ladder.
“Around the halfway mark the side’s starting to settle a bit and is improving every week, but there’s no bigger test than against the reigning premiers,” James said.
“They’ll be up and about but we’re looking forward to it.
“It’s going to be a massive day for the club with the reunion and most of the 1990 side coming down for the weekend — it’s a huge game.”
The Lions had a convincing win over previously-undefeated Tongala last week, but as soon as that was over James said the players had set their sights on Rumbalara.
“As soon as that game was finished we sat down and started planning for this week,” he said.
“If we can get another win that’s going to help set us up for the rest of the year — we expected we’d be a challenging side along with four or five others, that’s how tight it is.
“But we’re second now and every week is another challenge so a win is so important.
“We really want that top-two position and there are five or six teams fighting for it.”
While results may be going their way, the Lions have suffered from injuries.
But James said they were better placed than at this point last year.
James said his team’s younger players had started to stand up and be counted, while recruit James Wilson had filled a hole in defence.
