The injury-ravaged Hoppers put on a spirited display, trailing by just seven points at the final change, but ran out of legs in the final quarter, handing Bright its first win since round eight.
The Hoppers were on a roll in the first half, and were it not for inaccuracy in front of goal, could have led at both quarter time and half-time.
But with players doubling up from the reserves, it was always
going to be an uphill
battle for the Hoppers, who earned praise from Bright coach Regan Alexander.
“I give full credit to Moyhu, they controlled most of the first half, they played really well,” Alexander said.
“But it’s good to get back on the winner’s list after a couple of losses.”
The Mountain Men looked a better side almost straight away thanks to the addition of Buckley, who has only been able to play six games so far this season due to hip complaints.
“He gives us a big target (Buckley) and is really important to our forward structure,” Alexander said.
“There wouldn’t have been more then 10 points between us for most of the game.
“But we started to gain a little bit of control in the second half, started to hold possession a little bit longer.”
Elsewhere, Glenrowan held off Bonnie Doon to remain undefeated, running out 22-point victors.
After being outscored seven goals to one in the first quarter, the Bombers clawed their way back to within 15 points by three-quarter time.
But they couldn’t sustain their momentum, with the Tigers taking all the heat out of the game, scoring the only goal for the quarter and keeping the Bombers to just three behinds. The loss sees Bonnie Doon fall to fourth spot but only on percentage, sharing eight wins with the aforementioned Bright, who crept into third.
