VETERAN guard Matt de Koeyer has announced his retirement from the Albury-Wodonga Bandits.
The two-time conference champion said he had to listen to his body, after more than 10 years with the Border side.
“It was a bit of a combination of my body and wanting to go out on a high after the conference final,” de Koeyer said.
“I'm lucky enough to have played in two winning conference finals, but the 2012 championship would be the biggest highlight, for sure.”
De Koeyer said it was the little things about the Bandits that he would miss.
“I'll miss the road trips with the guys, it's been a pretty great experience,” he said.
“You make a lot of friends along the way, guys like Nick Payne and Michael Watson will be mates for life.
“This year has been pretty special, and I've played with some excellent players over the journey.
“Allen McCowan would be the best I've played with though, undoubtedly.”
