Author Kellie Arrowsmith was joined by male counterpart Chris Allard on the opening shift in a concession to critics of sexual objectification including Wodonga mayor Anna Speedie and White Ribbon ambassador Mark Byatt.
Ms Arrowsmith wrote a book titled Skimpy about her time working in remote pubs interstate.
Carrier Arms owner Ron Montgomery said all feedback was taken on board.
“Some of the reaction was over the top and there certainly wasn't anything sinister intended with what we set out to do,” he said.
“We've decided to push ahead despite the criticism.”
