Former Wangaratta mayor Anthony Griffiths has questioned why councillors sacked in 2013 should be able to run again this year.
Speaking at a public meeting at the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday, he compared the situation to disqualifying people who had been declared bankrupt.
“Even if you have been sacked as a councillor, you can just put up your hand again, which does seem somewhat contrary to those other provisions,” Mr Griffiths said.
He was backed up by Wangaratta identity Adrian Vaughan, who questioned the point of standing “when others responsible for the situation we are in now, can just waltz back in”.
Former councillors such as Don Joyce, Roberto Paino, Lauren McCully and Dr Julian Fidge also attended the forum with Natalie Hutchins.
Dr Fidge questioned if a council executive officer would still have power to call special meetings, like he said occurred during the previous council term.
