Set in the depression era, the year 11 and 12 ensemble takes to the stage in the annual senior production.
Scots School theatre co-ordinator, and Guys and Dolls director, Liz Heitmeyer says the play revolves around gamblers and their bets.
“One of the gamblers tries to date one of the mission workers and in doing so they fall in love,” she says.
“In the meantime, one of the other prominent gamblers is under pressure from his girlfriend of 14 years to get married.
“There is a lot of illegal games and hiding from the police.”
The performance will raise money to support gambling problems in the area.
“This year we are very proud that some of the money we collect at the door will be going to go towards missions that work on our streets,” Ms Heitmeyer says.
“There is a bit of a link between what happens in the show and what we can do in the community.”
Student Matt Mills, 18, plays the high-rolling gambler Sky Masterson who has luck on his side.
“He makes a bet with Nathan Detroit on whether he can take a doll to Havana,” Matt says.
“The songs are great, the character I play is awesome and I get to flirt with everyone.”
Year 12 student Emma Webb, 17, who plays the fiancee of 14 years, says the group is proud of the professional level they have reached.
“Scots is celebrating its 150th year, so it’s a really exciting time for not only the school but the senior cohort,” she said.
“I’m really proud to be performing in this exciting time.”
The ensemble has been working on the production since September last year.
“I am most excited to get out there and show what we can do,” Emma says.
The school will perform a free community matinee at 11am on Thursday, March 3, for senior citizen groups and schools.
