“TODAY was terrific – the advice and support that I received was very down-to-earth and made sense to me as I continue my search for employment.”
This was feedback from one client who popped into the Skills and Jobs Centre in the Wodonga CBD recently.
The centre was opened in TAFEspace late last year.
Wodonga TAFE manager of strategic initiatives Jennifer Gordon said the Wodonga centre was now fully operational.
The centre offered free advice to the public including customised, personal advice, referral and support across a range of services including training advice; careers advice; industry skills needs; and skills assessment.
“The Wodonga Skills and Jobs Centre does not intend to replicate existing services within the employment services sector – but rather work in collaboration with these services and complement the work that they do,” Ms Gordon said. “The centre staff can explain the employment service environment to individual clients, and provide advice as to the processes involved in seeking employment.”

Free workshops on a variety of topics are scheduled to further assist individuals to search for work.
Free seminars will be scheduled specifically for businesses and employers on topical issues related to employment, such as government incentives available to support the creation of more employment in their businesses, information about skills in demand or the changes in the local/state/national employment markets, or key issues impacting jobs in local businesses and the local economy.
The centre can help answer questions if you are confused about where to go to look for employment, to gain advice about employment services available or for support in preparation for seeking employment.
Under the Victorian Government's Back to Work Scheme, up to $100 million is being made available to support businesses who hire disadvantaged job seekers, as part of a plan to create at least 100,000 Victorian jobs. Incentives are being offered to employers to create employment opportunities for particular target groups.
Skills and Jobs Centres are being opened across Victoria.
