SAM Carpenter has always been a competitive beast of a player who’s hated losing.
Now that he’s co-coach of Wangaratta Rovers, that passion to win has only been amplified.
The Hawks started the season in disastrous fashion with a 98-point mauling at the hands of Yarrawonga but enter Saturday’s match against North Albury on the back of a two-match winning streak and desperate to go 3-1.
“As a player, I always hated losing and loved winning, but as a coach that’s even more so,” he said.
“After we got a bit of a touch-up in round one I couldn’t sleep for three days and then the last two weeks when we’ve got over the line have been really satisfying.
“One of our young players caught me smiling on the weekend in the last quarter with five minutes to go.
“It’s good to see the things you say and the instructions you put in place come off.”
