Brian Mitchell, 63, who moved to Wodonga from Albury in 1988 and operates BrimIT Solutions, believes there is a lack of transparency with many council decisions.
“Open council means just that,” he said.
“If you look at Alpine council, Alpine council streams their meetings live, Wodonga has never done that.
“The public to a degree are a little restricted if they attend council meetings they can’t see or do much.
“I’ve attended council meetings for 12 months and never seen people in the gallery talk at meetings.”
Mr Mitchell, who has been involved in service clubs, tennis and chairman of St Monica’s Primary School board, said he long had a desire to be on the council.
“I have been very keen on participating on local council for a number of years, but the business has precluded me from it,” he said.
“I’ve changed the structure of my business, so that allows me to get involved.”
Mr Mitchell is married to Judy and they have two adult children, Kim and David, and recently homed Muku, a Maltese/Shih Tzu, from Wodonga Dog Rescue.
