But two children in the house at the time of the terrifying incident were unharmed.
Emergency services were called to a home on Bangoran Place, Port Macquarie after reports of a home invasion about 6pm Tuesday.
A 28-year-old woman was treated for a large cut to her arm and a 49-year-old woman was treated for a cut to her hand and swelling to her face.
Both were taken by ambulance paramedics to Port Macquarie Base Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police will allege a man known to the women forced entry to the home armed with a chainsaw before an altercation took place.
During the altercation the man allegedly attacked both women with the chainsaw causing the injuries, before fleeing.
The five-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl at home at the time were not injured.
A short time later, following investigations, a 30-year-old man attended Port Macquarie Police Station where he was arrested.
He was later charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, break and enter and commit grievous bodily harm, reckless wounding (x2), and breach apprehended violence order.
He was refused bail and is due to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court on Wednesday ..
