Later that year they bought 35 Boer goats, which became the backbone for Myrrhee Premium Boer Goats.
Today they run 300 stud and commercial Boer goats on 36 hectares west of the Fifteen Mile Creek.
Mrs Northey said they originally sold meat through a co-op until they took control of the processing.
In August they were named among producers in the delicious. Victorian Produce Awards.
“The interest in goat meat is growing all the time,” she said.
Mr and Mrs Northey sold goat carcasses to restaurants throughout the North East.
They also offered roasts, value-added cuts and sausages at farmers’ markets.
With 120 does due to kid within four weeks, Mrs Northey said their own children Sarah, 20, Alice, 17, Jack, 16, and Ben, 14, were on hand to help.
“Everyone knows midwifery at our house!” she said.
