The front and back of the Holden SS Commodore were set on fire outside the man’s home on Chapple Street on Thursday morning.
The side of the car also appeared to have been scorched.
Detective Senior Constable Tristan Purss said emergency services were called to the fire about 1.50am.
“It was obviously treated as suspicious straight away," he said.
“There appears to be two or three seats of the fire where someone has had an attempt to destroy the vehicle.”
The victim was reluctant to talk to police members yesterday.
The attack may have been captured on a security camera outside the home.
Detective Senior Constable Purss said police were trying to determine a motive, but said it appeared to be a targeted attack.
