In a glowing endorsement, Singe was named in the 25-member line-up despite having another 12 months in the age group.
“It’s exciting to make the squad,” Singe, 17, said.
“I was really surprised.
“I didn’t think I would make it.”
The Billabong High School student made the cut after two trials at the State Netball Centre in Melbourne.
The squad will be trimmed further in coming weeks.
Singe’s selection continues a dream year for the youngster after she won the Ovens and Murray’s Rising Star and came runner-up to Yarrawonga’s Hannah Symes in the Toni Wilson Medal.
Symes finished three votes ahead of Singe in the count.
Hopper coach Paula Cary said she wasn’t surprised by Singe’s selection.
“It’s a very good effort, particularly considering she’s bottom age,” Cary said.
“She’s had a fantastic season.
“She has the height and agility and works very hard.
“She has done extremely well.”
The Ovens and Murray has churned out many state players in recent years including Jane Cook, Jacqui Newton, Maddie Byrne and Breda O’Kane.
Cook recently signed a two-year deal with National Netball League club Adelaide Thunderbirds with her 202-centimetre frame set to make her a formidable force under the ring.
Singe arrived at Bunton Park from Hume Netball Association club Henty and spent two seasons playing under-16s.
She has played in under-16 and B grade premierships and was a key player in the Hoppers advancing to the A grade preliminary final against Yarrawonga this season.
“Nakita has had a really good year,” Cary said.
“As well as playing A grade for North Albury, she has made a Riverina side and played in winning representative sides.
“She’s improving all the time.
“Another good thing about Nakita is she’s always got a smile on her face.”
