Pinchos Catering, Andiamo Street Food and Pop Up Supper Clubs operators Andrea Burgio and Farrah Reid wanted to bring something new to the heart of town.
Italian-born chef Burgio said they started out offering Sicilian-style rustic fare using his father’s traditional recipes.
“Since then we’ve branched out into Spanish, Brazilian, Middle Eastern and Greek street food,” he said.
Having travelled widely in pursuit of authentic street food, Burgio and Reid went to South America in August.
Reid said there was a thriving underground restaurant culture in Buenos Aires.
“An amazing restaurant, called Proper, had no signage and just a burnt out car outside, there was no menu and the chef brought out whatever he was cooking,” she said.
The couple will head to Japan for the first time on Sunday.
The business will reopen in two weeks with a fresh focus on their own gelati soon.
