With council forced to spend roughly $300,000 annually to manage litter, councillor Henk van de Ven said enough was enough.
Cr van de Ven is urging people to sign up to the NSW Environmental Protection Agency’s ‘Report a Tosser’ program, designed to help the EPA fine people who toss rubbish from their cars.
“I think we’re a very conscious society as far as rubbish is concerned, all our efforts around recycling and that sort of stuff is very much in people’s consciousness,” he said.
“It’s one of those things that people notice more often.
“I think it’s a really good thing to have this campaign and make people aware that there is something they can do about it.
“I think the threat of being dobbed in by fellow community members should be enough to stop people throwing rubbish out of their cars – it certainly would do that for me.”
