The Commercial Club’s Squash and Racquetball Club received the award after hosting last year’s national Open Racquetball Championships.
The event, held at three venues, boasted the highest numbers of entries – 235 – since the mid-1990s.
“What it shows is that all the hard work and travelling that people have done, playing tournaments around the countryside, shows how effectively they’ve represented the Commercial Club,” tournament director Ross Falconer said.
One of the reasons the Border was selected was due to the sport’s booming nature.
“It comes down to the squeaky wheel gets the grease,” Falconer said.
“It really only needs people to get out and make a lot of noise and convince people that they should try the sport.”
The club’s success has been rewarded with a further two-year deal for the Australian titles, with the next one scheduled for October.
