Times have changed and so has Jimmy Barnes whose latest tributes album is designed as a prequel to his super-popular Soul Deep records.
On The Rhythm And The Blues, Barnesy — who’s set to hit the Kinross in December — has plenty of fun recreating the work of Ray Charles and Little Richard to name a couple.
Not surprisingly, Barnes’ gravelly voice suits the Charles’ classic Hallelujah I Love Her So, down to the ground.
Billy Riley’s Red Hot opens the CD and swings like no other while a strong take on Otis Clay’s That’s How It Is (When You’re In Love) gives a good idea where Barnesy took his cues from on many of his hit ballads.
Little Richard’s Keep A Knockin’ is great fun while Ike and Tina’s A Fool In Love is tops.
