Robin McDonald said 80 per cent of their 380ha farm was destroyed in the fires.
A wind shift turned the firefront away from her home at the last minute but she told the commissioners the threat continued well into the next day.
“Had the local people, farmers fighting the spotfires, putting out smouldering areas after the fire agencies moved on I’m sure our home would have burned down,” Mrs McDonald said.
Her evidence was given this morning on the last day of sitting at the Savoy Club at Myrtleford.
