Barlens took out Rental Company of the Year – Events in the Hire and Rental Industry Association’s excellence awards for 2017.
General manager Morris McKeeman said the company was already pleased to be one of three finalists, its third nomination in five years, but to win was a big honour.
“To be able to go against the best in the country and then pull that off, it’s a pretty big ask,” he said.
“All the staff and all the workers are pretty chuffed.”
Barlens began in Canberra more than 50 years ago and has been an Albury presence for about half that time.
As well as major Border events, the company works in centres such as Broken Hill, Adelaide, Melbourne and Coffs Harbour.
Mr McKeeman felt staff efforts in building a 25m x 55m marquee hall, during the sheep and lamb convention LambEx last August had helped Barlens to its award win.
“It’s not often that a show of that calibre comes to the Border and requires a marquee of this size,” he said.
