Accelerant was used to light a fire at the rest stop on the Murray Valley Highway, near Yarrawonga, about 4.55am on Thursday.
Sergeant Damien Loiterton said the flames destroyed a picnic bench, damaged a nearby water tank and burnt the structure over the area.
“There’s probably $2000 worth of damage caused,” he said.
