The Imagination Club at St Augustine’s Primary School is the inaugural project for I Can Ovens and Murray, the local chapter of the I Can Network, which focuses on the potential of people on the autism spectrum.
I Can Ovens and Murray regional managers Kyleigh Andrews and Kate Moon and mentor Camilla Birthisel led 14 children in grades 3 and 4 through Friday’s activities.
Mrs Moon said tactile games such as throwing a ball of wool around highlighted people’s links.
“We all have different things we like and different strengths but we’re a team and we’re all connected together,” she said.
“The opportunity for each of them to speak up and be heard too was a big part of it.”
I Can Ovens and Murray hopes to expand to other schools and also start a community program in October.
