Renowned for his television series, The Outback Cafe, Olive will teach Wodonga TAFE students how to cook with indigenous ingredients in a masterclass on Tuesday.
Twelve participants in the masterclass have joined an 18-week program, run together with Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation and Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare.
The students will learn how to use indigenous ingredients such as bush tomato, lemon myrtle and mountain pepper leaf in contemporary cookery.
Wodonga TAFE’s Cookery and Patisserie teacher Sarah Whitling said the students made 300 bulk meals last week.
“With ingredients initially sourced from Food Share, the students made the meals which were then returned to Food Share and then to Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation, to be distributed to people within the community,” she said.
This initiative is supported by the Victorian government.
