The High Street gift shop business was the victim of a break-in Saturday morning.

A rear door was forced open about 2am and the offenders took clothing and other items.

Police were waiting for the owner to give an inventory of what was taken.

Detective Senior Constable Tracy Jarrott said the crime was not believed to be linked to tobacco.

“They forced open a rear door,” she said.

“There was damage to the lock area.

“We believe gift items and clothing were stolen.”

The incident is the latest in a string of problems for the business.

The store was raided for the third time earlier this month, with police taking thousands of cigarettes, more than 12 kilograms of tobacco and about $6000 in cash.

The raid temporarily closed the business, but would-be customers continued to attend.

Police arrested a man during the August 3 raid, and he will face Wodonga Magistrates’ Court on November 14. 

A raid last December netted about 17,000 cigarettes, 10 plastic bags of loose chop-chop and $4744 in cash. 

Lebanese man Khalen Ali spent 22 days in jail after the raid. 

He had faced deportation after fronting court, but it was unclear if this has happened. 

Police are seeking any witnesses to the weekend break-in.
