Police said the boy and friends were on Glenelg Drive about 4am, when a man threatened the boy with a knife, before they engaged in a physical fight.
The boy suffered cuts to his hands and was taken to Albury Base Hospital.
Police believe a man of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged between 16 or 18 wearing a black baseball hat and dark hooded jumper, can assist their inquiries.
