NSW Rural Fire Service’s Southern Border Team announced the danger period in Albury City, Greater Hume, Federation and Berrigan local government areas would start on October 16.
Anyone wishing to light a fire during the danger period must obtain a permit.
Inspector Craig Warwick said landholders must be careful as warmer conditions can cause fires to spread quickly once ignited.
“With the onset of hotter and drier months conditions will become more conducive to the spread of fire, people will need to be extremely careful when lighting and maintaining fire,” he said.
“If a fire leaves your property, the landowner is liable for any damages.”
Inspector Warwick encouraged locals to have a bush fire survival plan so all members of the family know what to do in an emergency.
