Belvoir’s hopes of regaining the premiership have hit a hurdle with the board deciding potential recruit Haydyn Roberts is contracted to New City.
The paceman has been training with the Eagles for six months.
“If he (Roberts) wishes to play elsewhere, he would have to work out with New City to organise a clearance,” CAW chairman Michael Erdeljac said.
Roberts finished 15th on the wicket-taker’s list last season, with 26 at 21.46.
Meanwhile, Belvoir captain Matt Jaensch admits his team had a premiership hangover last season.
“We definitely did,” he said.
“Belvoir hadn’t won a provincial premiership and a lot of players at the club hadn’t experienced a premiership before, so once they achieved that goal, it was sort of a bit of a down last year where commitment was an issue and it wasn’t a priority for a lot of people.
“But a lot of people have got that fire back in the belly.”
