Seven teams served up hearty recipes from chicken pilaf to lamb curry – the Shields family’s meatballs had disappeared long before their apple and rhubarb crumble was stewing on the camp oven for dessert.
Jamie, who recently returned to Sandy Creek after 16 years in Queensland, finished building their set-up hours before the event.
“We do a lot of camp oven cooking, but we’re used not used to cooking for 200 people – we won a cook-off in Queensland with the same recipe,” he said.
Co-organiser Linda Hamilton said the event, run by CWA Kiewa Tangambalanga, was sold out.
“We’ve had excellent participation for the Show ‘N Shine and people have been really positive about it,” he said.
