After dismissing Hunter for 117 in the final at Barooga, the line-up lost early wickets before rallying hard and falling just 16 runs short.
New City’s Liam Fitzsimmons and Lavington’s Harrison Weaven picked up two and one wickets respectively in the decider.
Fitzsimmons was later selected in the NSW Second X1 after a strong week with the ball.
The Rock-Yerong Creek’s Michael Driscoll also played for Riverina.
Riverina, who last won the carnival when it defeated Hunter in Sydney in 1997, has only won three titles since the competition started.
Coached by Deniliquin’s Anthony Bradley, Riverina’s bowlers performed particularly well throughout the week by bowling good line and length.
Fitzsimmons will now advance to the next round of selection trials for the All Schools team.
