Family of four escape suspicious fire in Taylors Lakes

A family of four has had a lucky escape after a suspicious fire in north-west Melbourne.

An arsonist used flammable liquid to set a vehicle and a house on fire in Taylors Lakes in the early hours of Saturday morning, police believe.

Police were called to the Herman Close home shortly after 2.30am following reports of a fire.

The exact circumstances are being investigated but, at this stage, police believe flammable liquid was deliberately used to set the vehicle and house's front door alight.

The occupants of the house, which included two young children and their parents, were not injured.

Police are treating the fire as suspicious and are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a silver Holden Commodore sedan VT or VX model that was in the area at the time or anyone that may have seen suspicious activity in the area.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
