Wagga’s own Olympic triathlete Brad Kahlefeldt was the special guest as Riverina’s finest young athletes were recognised for the sporting feats through the year.
Kirby, from Albury’s Murray High School, was awarded the prestigious Lorraine Wright Award for her efforts at basketball.
Deniliquin North Public School’s Mulham took out the primary equivalent, the Bernie O’Connor Award for her efforts in athletics.
Kahlefeldt was impressed by so much Riverina talent.
“It was great to see so many of the up and comers that have represented NSW this year,” Kahlefeldt said.
“It’s great to see so many young athletes from the country representing NSW and no doubt aspiring to represent Australia in the future.
“As I said to them, it’s certainly not a disadvantage being from the country.”
