Willett claimed Shooting Australia’s Male Shooter of the Year award for the third successive time at the sport’s gala night in Queensland on Sunday.
“I managed to win all five double trap events, so that means I’m in first spot for nomination for Shooting Australia for the Commonwealth Games,” he said.
“That announcement is later in the week, so it’s all looking good for the Commonwealth Games.”
Willett, who turns 22 later this month, started the year in style, posting a world record score to win the ISSF World Cup in India.
“I had another extra win last year, but this year and last were pretty similar,” he said.
That announcement is later in the week, so it’s all looking good for the Commonwealth Games.

Fellow Border competitor Shane Pinner faces a nervous wait to see if he wins selection for the Gold Coast games.
He finished second behind Willett, but the governing body is able to use its discretion whether to send another double trap performer.
