The SES is encouraging residents to drain any stagnant water in containers such as pots, tyres, buckets and roof gutters.
It is recommended that residents change their pets’ water, bird baths, and vase waters once a week, keep swimming pools well maintained and any ponds tidy with minimal vegetation around the edges.
Water tanks should be completely sealed and have a removable screen mesh fitted to the outlet and overflow pipes.
Fly screens, windows, doors and vents should also be checked and lawns and gardens trimmed to eliminate areas mosquitoes like to rest in.
People should protect themselves from mosquito bites by wearing long, loose clothing and regularly applying repellent.
