Deanna Matjasevic had a two-week-old baby at home when she was stopped by police in the early hours of July 27.
She tested positive to cannabis roadside on Melbourne Road in Wodonga, but refused to go back for further tests.
She told police a friend was caring for the child, which raised questions from magistrate Ian Watkins.
“It’s hardly in the child’s interest to be breast-fed milk with cannabis, is it?” he asked this week.
Mr Watkins banned her from driving for four years, which he said wasn’t particularly long given the offence.
Matjasevic has a prior for drugs.
“Look, you can't be a good mother to your child and use drugs, that’s all there is too it,” he said.
