Always giving with a gentle smile and kind nature, Molly was an inspiration to all of us
- Albury Wodonga Indian Australian Association
Molly (Mary) Mamootil died on December 31 after a brief illness, with her funeral to be held Monday at 11am in St David’s Uniting Church, Albury.
Albury Wodonga Indian Australian Association paid tribute to Mrs Mamootil, also known as Didi and Aunty, who with her husband Abraham welcomed so many Indian immigrants to this region.
“Molly Didi was a generous spirit – always giving with a gentle smile and kind nature,” the association said.
“Molly was an inspiration to all of us.”
Dr and Mrs Mamootil came to Australia in 1975, living first in Holbrook and then Albury. The Mamootils, who have five children and seven grandchildren, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last May.
The association said Mrs Mamootil’s compassionate, open nature encouraged people to seek her advice and comfort.
“Molly Didi was always present for any of us to visit her anytime, even during her last hours, and we will miss that,” it said.
