Club life member Paul Schnelle said a previous favoured option within Federation Council for a 25 metre indoor facility only would be a major setback for Corowa.
The consultant appointed by council to investigate future aquatic needs in the town, Mike King, will present his latest findings to councillors on Tuesday.
“The dual facility facility would be ideal, but the key is making it cost effective,” Mr Schnelle said.
“Savings can be achieved on the current operating model.
“We can also see the tourism impacts of having a 50 metre outdoor pool.
“A 25 metre indoor pool alone wouldn’t work from a tourism perspective.
“The amount of people we get down there for those three to four weeks in December-January using the inflatable devices just wouldn’t work in a 25 metre facility.”
Mr Schnelle said usage of an indoor facility for 12 months would make the overall facility more viable.
Club members could also train during winter months and learn to swim and other aquatic rehabilitation activites suited to an indoor facility can be developed.
Mr Schnelle said sufficient land exists on the eastern side of the 50 metre pool to build an indoor pool.
Acting council general manager Adrian Butler said no date had been set for when final recommendations for the pool would be put to council.
But council has secured $2.5 million in grant funding which is contingent on the new pool being completed before the end of 2019.
Meanwhile Federation Council has called an extraordinary meeting on Thursday to advance its search for a permanent general manager following the dumping of Chris Gillard late last year.
The cost to find a replacement could be up to $100,000 with a recruiting agency hoped to be appointed by the end of March and an appointment made by the end of May.
Councillors will also decide on whether to add Cr Norm Wales and Cr Bronwyn Thomas to the recruitment committee which presently includes the other seven councillors.
Mr Butler returned to Federation Council following a stint at Wagga Council after being general manager at Urana before the merger.
