The powerhouse frontman smartly doesn’t stray too far from his former band’s signature sound on Alive with the opener Drive a forthright example.
The ballad Drink (Everlasting Love) is another strong tune that would fit neatly on Live’s breakthrough CD Throwing Copper.
The Great Beyond is something a little different as it flirts with a dance-floor beat.
As a result it’s the most bouyant tune heard from Kowalczyk in recent memory.
Lead single Grace is a powerful effort inspired by the Haiti earthquake while Soul Whispers is Ed at his haunting best.
