Counterfeit money is still circulating in Southern NSW and the North East with businesses urged to keep an eye out for Chinese markings on $50 notes.
Albury police issued a warning about the notes in August last year after a man tried to use the money at a supermarket in Leeton.
Deniliquin police seized 50 notes with the markings yesterday after making inquiries at a Napier Street address.
The investigation is still underway.
Inspector John Aichinger said reports of the notes were first made to police in regards to the Deniliquin Ute Muster and police were also investigating reports of a similar $20 note.
“This is the largest quantity we’ve had, but this kicked off around about October when they were first detected,” he said.
“If people see the notes, they should advise police and secure the notes.
“Be mindful of any CCTV footage that might capture the person trying to pass it.”
The notes have also been circulated in Wodonga.
Anyone with information should contact Deniliquin Police 035881 9299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
