More than 350 players will make up 44 teams in this weekend’s Australian Badminton Veterans Team Championships.
Albury-Wodonga Raiders, Wolves and Mixtures have entered in grades D1, D2 and E, the first time in several years the Border has had teams to call their own.
Event organiser Martin Derks said new blood was behind the influx in players.
“I think change of management, new committee, different ideas, young people, that has all contributed,” he said.
“We went in a bit of a lull for the last 10 years or so but there is a lot of interest this year and that has resulted in us having three teams entered.
“The last two or three years we haven’t had a team.”
To celebrate the 30th anniversary, a barbecue will be held at the SS and A Club courtyard on Saturday night, starting 7pm, with the trophy presentation at Lauren Jackson Sports Centre on Sunday.
The tournament starts on Saturday and ends Sunday.
