Franchisees Kavan Gajjar and Swapnil Parikh purchased the former Mobil outlet on the corner of Hume and Townsend streets – opposite McDonalds – more than a year ago.
Construction will start soon after the eight-year anniversary of the fire which gutted the Hungry Jack’s restaurant on its present location in Hume Street.
Staff and customers were evacuated from the building in late January 2010.
The restaurant, which was re-built and re-opened in late October, has since been sold to Melbourne-based interests.
Wodonga councillor and ex-mayor John Watson was a part-owner and former franchisee.
Mr Gajjar and Mr Parikh have engaged Wodonga-based QI Constructions to build the new restaurant.
They also operate Hungry Jack’s outlets in Wodonga, Wagga, Griffith and Broken Hill.
Development approval was granted by Albury Council two years ago.
“We are three weeks at least away from starting construction,” Mr Gajjar said.
“We will be relocating from present location to new one and there will be only one Hungry Jack’s in Albury.
“Construction is expected to take six months.”
The business partners have had the franchise since 2013.
The development application states the existing service station building and another structure on the northern boundary will be demolished beforehand.
The site will include a main restaurant building and outdoor and play areas plus parking for 30 cars and five motorcycles.
The restaurant will open 6.30am to 10.30pm daily and the drive-through will operate 24 hours.
Up to eight people will be working at the restaurant each day.
All tanks associated with the former petrol station have been removed.
